I would like to know if there is a way for an applet to communicate with a servlet/? which is hosted on a complete different server.
I know that this can be done using a signed applet and the other option is to drop a class that will open a socket connection.

However, none of these are excepted. I would like to know if there is any other way of doing this.
We are using DHTML extensively. Is there any work around to this problem?

Unsigned/Untrusted applets can only communicate with the server from which they came. If you need to connect to a third party site, you have to create a servlet or some other proxy on the web server that served the applet that does the actual communication.

you can use HttpURLConnection to make a connection
to the servlet. Servlet will obviously on the same host
where applet came from. But nothing stops servlet from contacting
another host.
