IntellijIDEA has many wonderfull colour options so I can get my favorite syntax colours, but I see no way to change the colours of filemenus & filemenu popups etc. I need to have black as background colour as my eyes are a little weak.
Any ideas how to do this?

This is not currently possible. The next version will provide an ability to set custom look&feels including support of high-contrast schemes and color customization.
