I assume you mean JDK 1.4. At the time of writing, the latest 1.4 is beta3. This works quite well with IDEA, and is faster than 1.3. However, running IDEA under this JDK is not supported. The IDEA team is aware of the issues with the 1.4 JDK, and will release a compatible version once the final JDK is shipping. The main annoyance right now is a number of focus issues when running under 1.4 beta3.
