I am getting the "VisualAge is unable to start due to an unrecoverable error in startup sequence." I replaced the workspace files with a clean one an am now able to get into VA. Is there any way to recover my code from the corupted ide.icx file?

Your code is not stored in the workspace (ide.icx), it is in the repository. See How does the repository/workspace combination work... for more information.

You can add your Projects to the new workspace by choosing "Add from repository" in the Add Project dialog window.

Hi

Read the article http://www7b.boulder.ibm.com/vajdoc/vahwebx.exe/en_US/vj32/Extract/0/team/tasks/ttrepcon.htm

By the way your code can be recovered from the ivj.dat ( repository file ). I have also done it months back. Move your ivj.dat file to some other computer and then use "FileImportUtility" option.
Hope it helps.
