I need to recognize both control flow structure (such as branching statements and loop statements),
and method invocation in a Java program. Everything else is not really needed. The eventual goal is to construct a flow-chart like representation for that program.

What is the best approach to adjust the
grammer/lexer/parser/tree parser
for this project?

You need to match the whole input because you need context information. Well, at least you have to catch the beginning of a method and static code blocks. Might as well leave the java grammar as is and then add actions to the tree parser to do what you want.
