When using ("mail.smtp.dsn.notify","SUCCESS,FAILURE,DELAY ORCPT-rfc822; x.com ")

where x.com is the address I want acknowledgment sent to (not the same
as the from address).

The acknowledgment always gets sent to the from value of the MimeMessage.

How can I change this?

My first thought is that x.com isn't a complete email address and you're only using the domain.

My second thought is that the end user's mail client might be messed up. This may or may not be supported by the user's Mail Transport Agent (MTA).

See How do I receive an acknowledgement that a user has... for more info on DSN if you didn't see it, like try setting the Disposition-Notification-To header.
