We have LAN consisting of 90 SGI Otwo workstations and Octanes running IRIX 6.5. Developers write Java Applets using JDK 1.3 which need to be deployed on web server (Apache). The browser is Netscape 4.6. The Applets need to connect to Oracle 8i through thin JDBC driver to a different server than the web server. However, we get the security alert
"Security: could not connect to 'octane3' with origin from 'local-classpath-classes'"
in netscape communicator. Here Octane3 is our database server. But if I use Java's appletviewer it runs fine. I don't think digital certificates are required to sign and access Java applets in intranet environment.
