Would the security api be a useful base to implement a licence server on?


Im thinking along the lines of using it to allow/prevent access to certain modules/packages/indiviuduals/groups/sites etc and timeframe bound it via key expiry.

Yes, you could -- specifically check out the JAAS stuff.

Though, personally, I think client side "license servers" are a horrible idea and tremendous annoyance to the users.
