Additionaly, is there a sun FTP package available for writing files ? i have seen the URL class but it only allows to read files...

Many thanks for your help !

Please search the FAQs and forums before answering.
That's what they're there for - to get answers. This
topic is addressed many times in the FAQ, and has

IBM has developed a Java class library for creating an FTP client; see http://oss.software.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/ftp/index.html. If you are more adventurous, you can write your own client, since the essence of FTP is sending simple commands over socket connections.
