I'm using Red Hat 7.1, and the 1.3.1 JDK from sun (installed as root using the rpm). I have a java application that I start as a normal user that creates log files. However, when these files are created, they are owned by root. Any help as to why this is happening and how to remedy this would be appreciated. There is no setuid bit set on the java scripts/executables, so this is really confusing to me.

Thanks.

The java application will run under the same permissions that the virtual machine has. Therefor if the VM is set to run using root then the app will run under root.
