Logging error messages

I want to log all error messages into a file in my project which iam developing on Java. The log file should have the date, error message and the severity level. Can you please help me on this?

Check out log4j. It is part of apache's java stuff. Does everything you are wanting and also has the ability to change log levels. It is available at http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j
