I want to know what is the exact number of clients suported by Apache-Tomcat combination. In httpd.conf there is a variable "MaxClients" which was by default set to 150 which I set to 500. On doing so I am getting following warning : >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WARNING: MaxClients of 500 exceeds compile time limit of 256 servers, lowering MaxClients to 256. To increase, please see the HARD_SERVER_LIMIT define in src/include/httpd.h. < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < &l   More>>

Well from the warning I understood that I will have to compile the apache src with the above change. But my concerns are after changing it will Tomcat as well support so many users??? Also is 500 a correct figure??? what is the ideal number that I should keep. Thanx in advance.

Hi,

If you plan to expect 500 continuos simultaneous connection, well, so you need to recompile Apache. On the Tomcat side I don't know how reliable is, probably it depends on how much memory and how paowerful is your system, but if you expect such a number I'm wondering why you are using one single system and you are not thinking of setting up a web farm, maybe with a good local director to handle and balance the load.

Anyway, for Tomcat, I think you will have to handle the number of threads. Ypu should go to the Modify the Default JVM Settings section of the Tomcat - User Guide.
