I want to create an application which would be able to open and play some media files from intranet systems, which are mapped to some drive-letter on a client system( which is in the same intranet). I would like to get this mapped letter and drive information becuase, i cannot create URL object with the information i get from a FileOpenDialog, because it only tells me that it has been mapped to a certain letter and nothing about the exact system on the intranet.

I don't get it - if the remote drive is mounted and
you can use a FileOpenDialog to select a file, then
the URL you will use is a "file:" URL - you don't need
to know anything about the hostname in order to
use this URL.
