I want to do is start using XML, but I cannot seem
to find any of the classes in my HP JDK.

1) To use XML, say with DOM
objects, do I have to hunt around the net for the various
Java pieces, or can they be obtained from Sun directly?

2) Does SUN require other vendors to supply the XML
class files, etc?

3) Is XML, a standard part of a JDK distribution?

Peter,

The Java API for XML Processing it's not part of the standard Jdk distribution. The package can be downloaded from the above link (http://java.sun.com/xml/) and it will contain the basics classes for SAX or DOM parsing of any XML compliant document.
