What causes the org.omg.CORBA.ORBPackage.InvalidName exception to be raised when starting up the name server on UNIX as below: 

			

			vbj -DSVCnameroot=NamingService Server &

You don't show the code that is actually in the server.
I normally see this exception when the naming context hasn't been registered.
