hello.
i am new to linux.
i want to start tomcat without IDE.
please guide me about how to set CATALINA_HOME,JAVA_HOME PATH and CLASSPATH in linux.
i did set these variables in .bash_profile file according to a document i found on google.
but this does not work.
please reply.

you may have forgotten to EXPORT the environment variables after you set them in the .bash_profile. Try setting them first at an OS prompt and ensure that they are set. Then execute your .bash_profile in another session to see that they are getting set properly there as well.
