I have read a few of the books. IMHO the best one on the market at the moment is 'JavaServer Faces: The Complete Reference' (Complete Reference Series) by Chris Schalk, Ed Burns, and James Holmes.

This book clearly explains all the concepts and covers things like AJAX and the MyFaces implementation. You'll need a good few days (weeks?) to plough through it though.
