I am new to this technology. I want to know the differences between web server and Application server?
I want to know about currently avaliable webservers and application servers in the market?

For finding out how a web container differs from an application server search the FAQs.

And for available web containers and application servers, well it depends on the version of specifications they support.

you must know your needs, a Servlet 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, or 2.5 container? or an EJB 2.x, 3 container?

http://java.sun.com/ have pages containing all containers which are approved to pass each TCK tests.
