There is no specific java API for named pipes.


You can read and write to them in the normal way using the regular java file APIs in the java.io package - the only difference you might see is that you'll probably have to be more dilligent about flushing data out to the pipe with OutputStream.flush().


There is no easy way in java to create a named pipe - your only solution is to do so in an OS dependant manner (generally by calling Runtime.exec() and telling it to call mkfifo).
