Getting Selected Checkboxes

I have set of checkboxes and I would like to have a button which if I click will get all the selected checkboxes so that I could save them to the database. Could anyone provide me with a sample implementation?

How do you save a selected checkbox to a database ? And could it be your database is not exactly, so as to speak, very near to the place the button you'd like to have will get clicked ?
