I've tried to upgrade my eclipse installation from 3.02 to 3.1

I opened the eclipse distribution archive inside the 3.02.
The performnace of the eclipse 3.1 was really bad. So I had to return to 3.02. What can be a problem ? According to release notes 3.1 must be faster.
