Ok a little bit more. Ant is extensible. It´s quite easy to write your own tasks. Therefore you cant know all tasks. You should know the most used one from the Ant itself and maybe from AntContrib. E.g. , , , , , , , ... , , , ... The build.xml contains your build process, therefore you have to maintain that. But you can start with existing files. But start with the right: you need a more complex if you´re writing a J2EE application with EJBs, XDocet code generation and much more stuff than you´re writing a HelloWorld. Have a look at the "Developing with Ant" section of Ant´s manual. The Hello World with Ant could be a good start into using Ant.
