I would think you'd have problems with this. Sending messages out involves unique message-id's, for instance, which would have to be different the 2nd time around. But I guess it might work if you let the server generate them, as long as you don't expect the recipient to get exactly the same identical headers (the content could be the same).
Receiving messages would be more problematic, I think. Receiving messages the 1st time from a POP server would possibly delete them from the server, or at least change their flagged state, so they can no longer be read the same way.
Reading messages from an IMAP server might be something that you could reliably replay, if they are not new messages.
