Launching tomcat from eclipse is very easy. I've tried this with Tomcat 5.5.8 and Eclipse 3.1 Follow the steps below : 1) Install JDK 1.5 on your system. Tomcat 5.5.8 will not work on any JDK version below JDK 1.5. 2) Set JAVA_HOME environment variable for your system to point to the installed directory of JDK. 3) Install Tomcat 5.5.8 Binary Version. Install tomcat into your project in Eclipse. . Say "C:/eclipse_workspaces/MyProject/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.8". 4) Set CATALINA_HOME envirnment variable for your system to point to the installed directory of tomcat. 5) Re-start your computer.    More>>

B'coz, otherwise, in many times, your environment variables will not be available.

6) Now start your Eclipse 3.1

7) Go to menu Run >> Run...

8) A Wizard will open up. Here you will see on left a "Configurations" panel and on right hand side some tabs.

9) In "Configuration" panel, right click on "Java Applications" and select "New" in menu.

10) A new entry called "New_configuration" will be created. Rename it as you wish.

bootstrap.jar,
commons-daemon.jar,
