I have one VB.net applicationin with which i want to transfer files to a remote machine. The file is having text data and will be of 400-500 MB; is it possible to trasfer such huge data using SOAP? I have never used soap for such a large data.

There is something called SOAP "with attachments", for large amounts of data like that (I think it is sort of designed along the same lines as email "attachments" e.g. MIME body-parts etc.).

I knew some colleagues who were trying it with Java last year, and had trouble and just gave up for the time being.

I think a big problem was that it is/was still a draft standard, not a final spec? Don't know about Microsoft stuff (VB.net).
