Hi,

I am evaluating the possibility of implementing the lucene search in our hotel room availability search. The availability is for one year and there are almost 2000 hotel rooms meaning 2000 documents. If each document has an average of 5000 room units, that means we need availability info for 5000 units for everyday up til 1 year. I thought the index would become very large and that it probably could affect the result.
Had anybody done something similar? Is the search fast enough that the user wouldn't close the IE window? :)

It really all depends on how you structure your index, the queries you run, the hardware you run your application on, the number of simultaneous queries, etc.
Regardless, your numbers are not very large and you shouldn't see any performance issues. Check out the Benchmarks page on Lucene site for more info.
