How do I get JMeter past form authentication

I am trying to use JMeter to test a web application that is protected by form authentication. In the test environment it does not use https. My test plan is as follows: Test Plan Thread Group HTTP Request: Login Prompt HTTP Request: Login Form HTTP Cookie Manager View Results in Table The login prompt requests index.jsp. The login form submits a POST request to j_security_check with j_username and j_password as parameters. The error message that I get is "Invalid direct reference to form login page". It seems that even though I have a cookie manager, JMeter is not keeping track of the session like the browser does. Are there any suggestions as to how to get   More>>

Did you record your script using the proxy server? I have an app with form based authentication and JMeter works just fine with the recorded script.
