Hi:
I need to validate a SMTP server name entered by a user on a jsp/html page using the Java Mail API(written in the model or controller code).
I know that I probably need to open a connection to the smtp server name provided by the user and if the connection can be opened then the server is valid.
But I am a newbie to JavaMail so can you please let me know
how to achieve this?
Thanks.

The most important point is that you dont need Java Mail to validate a SMTP server!

You just need the java.net.* and for I/O u need java.io.* packages.

HINT: Look at the Socket class.
