applet overwritten by new URL

Is it possible to prevent a browser window in which an applet is running from being
overwritten by another web page ?

For example, say I'm running an applet in the browser. I go into Outlook and
click on a link embedded in a mail message.

The link opens up in the
window the applet was running in.

I know this can be configured via Advanced Options in I.E., but I'm wondering
if there is anything the applet can do to defend itself...

TIA for any ideas.

It wouldn't be an "applet" , if it could do that, right? ...
