I wrote a Java Applet which works well in PC and I want it to work in Mac. But it doesn't work. At first, I noticed that Mac only support Java 1.1.8. Then I rewrote the Java program and there's no compilation error. But the applet still can't work. It seems that the browser haven't loaded the applet. And there's NullPointerError in Java Messages Window.

I am new to Mac. Please help me if you have some advice. Thanks.

could you please describe your kind of mac os?
At the current time mac osx 10.3.3 support java version Java 1.4.2 based on Sun's J2SE 1.4.2_03 SDK.
The only suggestion that I could give to you is to pass to mac osx if your hardware supports the new os. Many compatibility issues aren't present in the recent version.
I hope this could help.

bye
