for word files have a look at Jacob http://danadler.com/jacob/ but if u use Jacob u have to be dependent on windows platform.

for pdf files read this article http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626501 download pj API from http://www.etymon.com/pub/software/pj/
some more useful resources http://www.etymon.com/epub.html#

have a look at POI project http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/
I dunno how helpful it wud b for word file as yet but i think its helpful for ppt files.

u have to read the files programtically and show contents in ur TextArea.

hope its helps

If you want to read the formats you summarize here, you might run into some trouble. Reading a PDF file can be done using the iText library. For reading PPT and DOC there is no sollution. The people of the POI project are working currently on the DOC format but they do not have a release planned for it. If they will ever support PPT is not tolled on the website.
Sucuring the data that is presented from being printed is not possible. People can always create a screenshot and paste all of them to eachother. PDFs are sometimes protected from printing but that is a different technique.
I think you will need to dive into the books for secure data. You will need to read up on DRM technology.
