I need to start some programs at the server with full right when a certain event takes place in the my servlet. But I seem to have problem with security when running Tomcat as a NT service. Powerpoint Viewer 97 works fine within the servlet when I run Tomcat via the catalina.bat startscript, but not at all when using the service.

So, is the trick to open up a door within the catalina.policy for the jar's using the ppview, add rights directly to ppview or somehow disable security. The application is not sensitive and security is not an issue.

How would it run a graphics application like ppview, when it doesn't have any graphics context? it is running as a service, so unless I am missing something, it has no access to the windowing display system ... e.g. it is not logged in "on the console", so to speak (I forget the exact MS Windows terminology involved)
