I have seen recently a class diagram consisting of three classes, one of them having associations with the the other two. Those associations are compositions. So, the objects of those two classes can contain the instances of the third one. How ambigous is it? Does it contradict the definition of Composition?

No, it doesn't contradict it.

Say both A and B have a composition relationship to C. That just means that an instance of C is "a part of" either an instance of A or B, but never both at the same time.
