With the ant build tool, how do I specify that one file depends on another ?

For example, foo.java should be recompiled if bar.java is modified.

My answer is :

- if you do not do anything special, everything works fine with ant builds except when someone changes static variables in a class; classes using these statics (for instance derived classes or unrelated classes if the statics have public visibility) will not notice.

- my answer is :

  • to prepare a release candidate, always do a clean build,

  • to prepare a quick fix, you can just use the task, ant and the compiler will pick up all changes except as said previously the ones resulting from changes in static variables

Longer answer: in this special case of compilation the java compiler will do that job. If you have other dependencies the will help.
