Is it possible to use String as typ for indexed properties?

In my example

maskFormBean.getFields()

returns an Enumeration of Strings.
I want to use:

maskFormBean.getReadonly(String name)

But written like that, I get this exception:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid indexed property 'readOnly[field]'

I understand a bit more and may be able to ask better.

[] - means indexedProperties
() - means mappedProperties

But when I use

property="readOnly(field)"

struts cannot find the property "readOnly(field)". Somehow it does not reconize the brackets and realize the mapped property-thing.
Seems it does not use the commons-beanutils.jar. How can I force struts to do so?
