The problem occurred because there was a space in the installation
directory path to the executable (the installation was attempting to
install to the default C:Program FilesIBM...). The workaround is to
change the install path to contain no space in it, for example:
C:WSAD...

Uninstall the IBM Agent Controller, separately? I think I had to do something like this too (I've uninstalled and reinstalled several versions, of WSAD, WSSD, WSADIE, etc.). In fact I think the uninstalls only partially succeeded (something else is seriously screwed on my Win2K machine, I always get a Microsoft error "Could not contact the Installer service"), so I had to go in and manually remove files, plus manually do regedit and remove all registry keys I could find which seemed related...
