I have a program that heavily depends on the "pipe" or "box" ASCII in the DOS character sets. JBuilder's internal window shows them in their UniCode equivalents. How can I change this? Is my only solution to just compile on the command prompt?

Bob;

The compilation has no effect on the runtime in this scenario, so you have 2 options:

  1. Compile in JBuilder and run in DOS. You can configure JBuilder ot generate a JAR file which you can then invoke using java -jar (jar file name) or JBuilder 8 will generate a Win32 executable for you which is quite nice too. Either of this two will run in a DOS shell.
  2. You can configure the the tools menu to invoke cmd.exe or a batch file which will execute your Java class and this will also run in a DOS shell.
