Did you use Windows Installer or Zip installer? If you used zip installer ten there is a batch file where you can set your memory limits. may be for XP it is not getting the desired memory. Check in your task manager and try increasing it. Anyway I have found that behaviour once you run IDEA for long time and load many libraries(JARS). I think XP also might have part to play in this. Not sure though.. HTH
