I try to model the following:
class A has a 1-N relationship with class B, and one of the class B object is a default value:

A ---- (1..*) B

How could I mark that one of those object is default? Somehow I don't like the idea of adding another relationship between objects, it polutes diagrams too much.

Well, you could use a custom sterotype on the association - something along the lines of <> - but I am not sure about its effectiveness. It might still be better to use an additional association for the default value.

Perhaps, a UML class diagram isn't the best place to put this information into. To whom do you want to communicate this detail, and why?

I assume that default values are for memeber varibales rather object, object woulg be null, sat that it has member variable TransactionFlag has default values 'Y' it can be shown using rational rose, just double click on the member var properties you can see the option for default value
