Hi All,


How does JAF/JavaMail decide on which character set to use for the "charset" parameter in the Content-Type heading for text/* body parts?


Does it scan the input stream to analyze the characters?


In some of my testing I have seen charset=646 used. Why doesn't it use iso-8859-1 instead?

OK, It seems that the 646 character set is what is being returned as the systems locale (Solaris box).


To overide this for JavaMail I have set the System Property
mail.mime.charset
to iso-8859-1.


This seems to work well.
