What is the difference between Application server and Middleware component server?

What is the difference between Application server and Middleware component server?


For example how BEA Weblogic and BEA Tuxedo servers differ?
What all are the situations I have to go for application servers and for what purpose I should use component server?

BEA Tuxedo is usually defined as "transaction processing" middleware, targeted for critical applications such as financial institutes' systems, etc.


Application servers are generally more feature rich, but lack the robustness of "pure" transaction processors.
