Hi,

Im writing a small application that takes care of my mail, both outgoing and incoming. My question is what I should use for storing incoming and sent mails. At first I thought that a database was the obvious choice but after reading the Forums here it seems more common to store on a local file. Any suggestions or pro/cons on this matter would be appreciated.

Why bother? Just get one of the local mail store providers, and copy the message from you're reception / sending store into the local mail store.
There are several supported formats, including Netscape and MH.

Consider inter-operability, portability, backup/restore, import/export. So, I'd say use an existing file format from some other common mail client application.
