There are 2 web applications(implemented using servlets/JSP). Both require logging in. Both can be accessed using same id and pwd.

How can a link in one web application take the user to another web application (residing in a different machine)
without prompting the user for login information.

Basically how does the 2nd application know that the user is a valid user.

You might get more info by posting the question in the servlet forum: http://www.jguru.com/forums/Servlets

Hi,

Since the two web applications are running on two different systems, there are no direct way to pass informations among them. The only way is to simulate an http connection and check if the user is validated.

There are other possible solutions, that involve database use, or ejbs or even web services.
