Why does a web container handle concurrent requests by spawning multiple threads which concurrently use the same servlet operation (say doGet) while an ejb container dedicates a stateless session bean instance to a client for the duration of an operation?

Since stateless session beans hold no state (conceptually) then an ejb container could choose to handle concurrent requests in a similar fashion as a web container.

Tell me I'm missing something here. :)

Stateless session beans are not dedicated to a client. When a client invokes a request on a stateless bean, the container receives the request, then dispatches it to an available stateless bean in the pool. Multiple request from a client to a bean may or may not be invoked on the same stateless bean.
