Why is portable remote object used for getting the remote refrence of EJB, if it is pure java system can unicast remote object be used instead?

Hi,

In order to enable EJB's to be communicated over RMI-IIOP protocol. With this an EJB can communicate with CORBA objects & viceversa as comfortably as java application comunicates with EJB.

Orginally EJB used to communicate over JRMP a protocol for java RMI, and that had a few advantages over RMI-IIOP eg garbage collection, object activation etc , but its major drawback was extenal applications written other than in java could not communicate with EJB's.

Hope this helps you .

Cheers
