According to the javadoc of the InternetAddress class, it "represents an Internet email address using the syntax of RFC 822". Since RFC 2822 supersedes RFC 822, does the implementation of the InternetAddress class contradicts any syntax stated in RFC 2822?

I don't think so. Most of the "SHOULD"'s and "MUST"'s of RFC 822 are still valid. The new RFC just clarified things that were ambiguous in 822, and deprecated some old formats that no one should have been using anymore.
