What platforms does VisualAge for Java run on?

Scott Stanchfield

First, any Java code you create in VisualAge for Java will run on any platform that has a Java runtime environment.

IBM has provided VisualAge for Java on the following platforms:

  • Windows (95, 98, NT w/ SP3)
  • OS/2 Warp 4.0
  • AIX4.2, 4.3 (Enterprise only)
  • Linux
  • AS/400
Note that IBM has announced, to the chagrin of some users, that VAJ for OS/2, AIX, and Linux will not extend beyond version 3.0x. Also, the plans for VAJ 3.5 on Linux have been suspended. IBM has stated that they remain committed to Linux as a development platform, but only going forward with WSAD/Eclipse.
