Question Why is Internationalization sometimes called I18N?
Topics Java:API:Internationalization

Answer
Because internationalization is too long to write all the time. There are 20 characters in internationalization. The number of characters between the first and last character is 18. So, if you write the first and last with an 18 in the middle, you get I18N, representing all 20 characters.

Similarly, localization is frequently abbreviated as L10N, as there are 10 characters between the first 'L' and the last 'N'.

The funny part is that the "I18N" abbreviation is not internationalized itself!
