FAQs vs. Forums. What's the difference between a FAQ and a Forum?

John Zukowski

Forums are for questions submitted by site visitors. They appear immediately and can be answered by anyone immediately.

FAQs are for questions (and answers) deemed worthy of being a FAQ. Questions that are general in nature and not a technical question specific to one user can be made a FAQ by the FAQ manager. Other questions (and answers) can stay in the forums.

If all you want is good questions and answers, look in the FAQs. If you want to see if something that hasn't made it into the FAQs might happen to answer your question, too, check out the forums.

If you want to answer a question, the FAQ lists only those approved unanswered questions, while the forum actually includes all of them.
