Can you change file permissions in Java (i.e. the equivalent of chmod)?

Erin Mulder

You can restrict file permissions further using a SecurityManager and Policy, but cannot actually change the file permissions in the native filesystem without a system call (e.g. Runtime.getRuntime().exec("chmod 644 " + filepath)).
